Thanks to Zombiehunter for posting this in this forum thread. Smirftsch (on OldUnreal) has been working on this patch that will fix bugs and will add 'new' features to Unreal. Beware: this is a test release to find the remaining bugs and problems!

whats up, I am an unreal gamer since 1998 and i view this site alot but never actually bothered 2 register, but now seemed like a good time coz this fix kicks ass.... i had problems with like a framerate of 10, the game would randomly speed up, slow down and cut up all the time, and it would always be super-dark. this annoyed me but this fix fixed absolutely everything, my thanks and recommendations

The patch is quite amazing and clearly shows potential for the future final release, although i wouldn't advice for most people to update to it as its CLEARLY an uber-alpha and it breaks some crucial things (for example saving games, upak, several broken actors to name afew)
i would only advice people that are really interested in testing to check this out.

Change sound driver from FMod to OpenAL or Galaxy. As for fog in water, turn on ViewFlash or smth like that to true in Unreal.ini

I tried it, and only thing that bothers me so far is that the blue loading screen is gone. Just says loading now I liked it better before. Was special
Dunno about water though, haven't tried it yet

That could be your OpenGL driver. The standard makes everything too dark for me as well. As said, the multimedia patch (sound and video) will fix a lot of these things already..
