Forgive me if soapboxing if frowned upon but I really need to get this off my chest.

About a week ago I went with my father, my mother and my niece to go see his parents down in Texas. He didn't show any signs of ill health at all, and we had a rather nice (and high calorie high fat...) dinner there. We initially went down there to help his mother go through a safety recall on her car, since she's pretty old and weakened now to drive all the way to the dealership she got the car from that issued the recall.

We stayed basically for three days, got the recall stuff done 2nd day, talked more 3rd day and left afterward.

When we got home suddenly my father got really really sick. Threw up so many times that his stomach was completely worn out. He had to be rushed to the hospital and they diagnosed this as a "galbladder attack", and they'd have to surgically remove the thing.

After that now I hear that said galbladder had developed gangrene over a long period of time and eating all of that fat has caused the gangrene to spill out into his stomach and into his bloodstream.

Then I hear that they've had to rush him to ICU at a hospital in Witchita to have the aide of specialists due to the case developing into imminent kidney failure. The doctors there told my mother there is a 50/50 chance of him surviving and recovering from this.

My mother is absolutely hysterical, she doesn't want him to die and if he were to die we'd loose the house. But then she tells me that the cost of all these doctors, these specialists, the operations performed on him to save his life are going to cost us more than what we even have in the bank and more than what the health insurance we have is willing to pay out. She starts going on a wild tangent about Obama care and how we're too poor to afford health insurance because of it.

Long story short, it's really looking like I may be going homeless. I'm hoping for the best, and I do very much wish and hope for the best of my own father, but I've already prepared for the worst.

Screw this country.

1) Sorry.

2) While ObamaCare does require everyone to have health insurance, it also guarantees care to people that don't have it.

Damn that sucks. I hope everything gets better. And the people in the country, namely doctors and whatnot, are extremely greedy bastards. Yes, I hate the US governemnt soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much. So many bad things I hear about them...

The thing with ObamaCare is it makes health insurance more expensive than it was previously, so it grossly contradicts it's own mission. (why do European countries have health care that's light years ahead of this worthless hellhole?)

And speaking of getting better, I just heard today he appears to be recovering after the intensive care, and should be back in a few days. I'm still worried about the costs though, I don't want my family to give up this house.

I can't afford insurance in usa either -
My full time job i had last year did not offer insurance ,
nor does the pay grade alow me to personally afford it either (3 person company).
Bonus: i made too much money from said job to qualify for reduced cost/free insurance.
I get to pay the fines for not having insurance , that not possible for me to afford.

"fines for not having insurance" That BS alone makes me wonder what the hell's wrong with the 'States.

I desperately want to move to Canada, if I had the sheer money and resources of even doing so.

EDIT: My father's returning home tomorrow but has to be on a 24/7 daily antibiotic regimen due to the gangrene bacteria still existing in his bloodstream. I'm not sure how long he has to remain on these but it's good to know that he's survived the worst and is actually able to return finally.

Add me to the list of Obamacare haters. I warned everyone it would be a mess, but some people were just sure they would get "free" health insurance. Nothing is free.

I've had health insurance since I was 18, and this is the first time in my life I've considered dropping it. It's funny; everything that Obama said would not happen has happened to me. He said, "if you like your current insurance plan, you can keep it." Mine was canceled as soon as Obamacare was launched, and the new plan that took its place was DOUBLE the cost (and there was nothing cheaper available). Obama also said that we could keep our doctors. I had to look for a new doctor right away, because all the insurance companies immediately narrowed their list of supported doctors, and surprise surprise - mine was not on that list.

Obamacare = epic win for the insurance companies.

I have health insurance and it's not Obummercare. It's Gateway Health and I *think* it's free.

My father's back home today, now to hope that he's going to fully recover at home.

I feel so sorry for all you in the states, I heard an ambulance ride could cost up to 5 grand, that's absolutely ridiculous.

In Sweden we pay extreme taxes compared to you guys but we have free healthcare at all levels.
