howdy all! I would like to have a tool with which I can split up dvd video, mess with it, edit the sound (turn volume up or down if I need to).
I've heard of windows movie maker (surprise!) and Jahshaka, but does anyone here knows of a great (free) tool to edit video?

http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/
Is probably the best free tool available. It isn't feature packed, mostly simple editing and applying compression. I don't know any non-free that are actually good editors but none edit direct off dvd afaik. dvdx or dvd2avi is a pretty easy to use ripper if they're still around. They won't work on newer dvds because of the encryption used.

Thanks... I might give it a try.
As for ripping dvd's.. that's no problem. I always use dvddecrypter and autogk (autogordian knot), which works fine...
