I played it... Controls are utterly retarded, and the menu slows my comp down while the actual game doesn't

Everything else about it is awesome tho

What annoys me about that game is the use of colours.

I don't like the controls or the colors. Feels to much like they took an exceptional EXU2 lighting scheme, ridiculously changed the colors, and added bloom. On second thought, reminds me more of Tarmation 2's lighting in some parts. Hope they make it better in terms of gameplay, or at least keyboard/mouse controls and a bit more uniqueness in the environments. I guess the lighting might be more of a theme thing, so it's almost exceptional enough to pass, but yes, it's still annoying as hell sometimes.

Just what exactly does that have to do with EXU2? :P
And after years of looking at bland, washed-out UE1 lighting some colourfulness should be like a blessing!

There's a difference between good lighting like in some of the things in Unreal, sort of, and, as in this case, you have several dark areas with random purple, light-blue, green, and orange lighting. When I brought up EUX2, I was referring to this, although Hell uses it a bit more appropriately and the lighting is much more constant than lighting resembling a rainbow of isolated colors being displayed all at once on your screen. It's distracting and it can be headache inducing. This is just the reason I particularly don't like the over-the-top lighting I see here.

March 2010 Beta now available. Big update:

Autodesk FBX format support (FBX version 2010.2)

•Static meshes, skeletal meshes and animations can now be imported from FBX files
•The FBX format is supported by many 3D modeling packages including 3ds Max, Maya, and MotionBuilder.
•Download FBX plug-ins from Autodesk

Interactive Static Meshes

•Static meshes can now be configured so that all instance of that mesh placed in a level can become dynamic and react with physics when shot or pushed, giving the environment a more interactive feel.
•The advantages of this implementation are:
◦Consistent behavior - all objects using that mesh will be interactive, instead of it depending on level designer set up.
◦Transparent to meshing - L.D.s don't have to do anything special, but they can prevent specific objects from being able to become dynamic when necessary.
◦These meshes are lit like any other static meshes until they move so there is no visual impact to using this system.
◦No additional performance or memory cost to these meshes except during the short period when a mesh is being physically simulated.
•This system is intended for use with small decorative meshes that don't have any gameplay implications.
◦The interactivity is client-side and is not replicated.

New Attachment Editor

•For displaying and modifying object relationships
•Lets you view and edit the attachment graph for a selected set of actors

mipmap sharpening

•Increases perceived resolution of textures w/o memory or performance impact

Property window favorites

•Simply mark a property as a favorite and it will always be displayed at the top of your property window.
•Combined with the search capability, this will greatly stream-line data access in the Unreal Editor.

Looks like there's a new game on the UDK site.

Aaaand we've got MAY release of the UDK. Who else experienced INCREDIBLE performance loss in both editor and the game?
One simple BSP surface makes my PC to choke. Ok, this box of mine is not of newest one. Dual core 2,3 and g-force 8600 GT 256 with 2GB ram. But still, I'VE NEVER HAD ANY problems with any Unreal 3 engine game. And this release just pissed me off. Unreal is not friggin Crisis! I dont care bout the vertex count! I care bout flexibility and performance Goddamn!!

So? Anyone has same problems?

Can't say it kills my PC but it performs worse.

My results for GDC demo map:
I got 18-20 fps with April build (which is not the best performance either).
And I got circa 12 fps with May build. And that is for sorry light shafts and sick contrast!

And for Deck:
April: 50-35 fps.
May: 35-30 fps.

P.S.
Try to turn off Aero, that helped me to fix infamous bugs in AVP, which is Unreal Engine game too.

I've got windows XP... XD And on April version I had 40-50 fps on all maps. Now I've got 8-15. !!
Also, in editor, when I put simple bsp cube, play the map, and when I look on the cube, I can see fps drop. Damn... :/

I HAVE FOUND the problem.

View -> World Properties -> World Info -> Default Post Processing -> Allow Ambient Occlusion

The screen ambient occlusion (in case of my UDK) f*** the framerate hard.
See if, when you disable it, it'll get better

Make sure it's off on your graphics card settings too if you have an Nvidia card; games that support it properly pretty much always have an in-game option for it anyway (like the UDK).
