Will you get any good sniping places?

And preferably a sniper rifle?

Nope, I'm gonna make a huge outdoor map and the only guns you will have are the Biorifle and Flak Cannon.

(Yes there will be plenty of sniping, but that won't be all of it. Think like Skaarj Trooper dropships and stuff when you least expect them)

Way behind on this thanks to my new addiction to Sword of the Stars (got it on Steam a few days before the contest began), but I did some work last night!

Sorry about the lack of lighting etc.

Also this area is really, really huge; it's hard to show just how big it is in screens. The bridge is 512 units wide, for starters, and you can see how far it extends. Loooooots of combat in this starting area.

A good start. Disappointed that it's not pink, but a good start.

Repetitive but probably the lighting will fix this problem. Since there isn't going to be any hitscan battles, that bridge makes me more calm.

Now with some very, very coarse, basic lighting applied.
I can't be sure how much better the final lighting will be, though, as
1) I suck at lighting,
2) this engine sucks at lighting (horrible, horrible low-res lightmaps), and
3) doing sharply-contrasting late afternoon/sunset lighting on a map this big with 255-radii lights is a real pain in the ass!

Good work.

I assume you won't be able to see into those windows when your playing the finished thing, because from your angle on the screenshots the windows look boarded up. Unless theyare meant to have shutters over them.

Now it is better. Would look really cool if the sky is coloured with a bright orange tone.

Waff - I sympathise with your comments about lighting large areas. Oh for a sunlight actor!
