My thought of today: how would the amazing Source look like in a more recent engine like in UE3? The black void is definitely super cool with Queensong.umx, but I guess that would be a little lazy to create for a today's game.
Do you think Prophet's rendition of it (as seen in Xidia Gold) would be the best choice to start with? Or do you have any other ideas?

Sure, the cocoon as seen from outside should be definitely re-created IMO.
