This pack was always good for the lulz, if nothing else. Anyway this map I think was a pretty good try at an urban setting in Unreal, especially before UT was out. Also the use of bots as human opponents was a novel idea too.

Yeah I really liked 13Mutants, mostly for the environments.
Although bots are still :X inducing.

Definitely one of the best of DavidM's early maps; for its originality as much as anything else. For a short level like this the bots work okay, and way the layout interlinks a little is good (although there could have been a bit more to it). Plus it manages to pull off the "city" design decently, especially considering it's such an early map.

I liked the map, especially because of the city theme. The use of those bots as enemies was somewhat surprising but works (they're not really difficult but I wouldn't call them a walkover either).
Unfortunately the second map didn't quite live up to my expectations. I was actually disillusioned by the change in enemies and the different gameplay - the flow of the game, which worked fine in part 1, was lost and the (simple) puzzles on how to progress were gone)..

I liked the City theme. But the use of these 2 Bots was horrible. After 20 shots they run out of ammo. They strafe the whole time, have a small collision radius and collect away your health packs.
And I can't understand why 13Mutants gets a higher score than The Crash. There must be something wrong with the scoring system.

I thought that it was an interesting challenge to fight an enemy who has limited ammo and can steal your health. iirc David M draws attention to the fact somewhere (either in a translator message or an external readme/text file), and the strategy of counting your enemy's fired shots is one that I quite enjoy playing out. I haven't seen that sort of gameplay in any SP map since. It doesn't really fit in Unreal, sure, but as an enjoyable gimmick in such a short level I say it succeeds.

When I first played, I didn't really see the appeal of this map (and I somehow got lost ). However, I can now appreciate it as an interesting map that experiments with different concepts. I love the urban style here.

There isn't really much in this map (and not much in the second part, either), but it is quite decent compared to most of DavidM's early maps. I remember that this was one of the first SP maps that I ever downloaded and played, I probably opened it in the wrong way back then since I remember that the bots kept respawning at the start of the level...

Strangely enough this was also one of the first packs I ever downloaded too.
