Forum update

Hi all,

I managed to update our forum from 3.1.0-RC2 (an experimental version from 2014) to 3.3.14 (a stable version from December 2024).

Additionally, I finally installed a self-hosted mail server and configure it to a point where the forum finally appears to be sending out emails again.

The new ...

Resolved "spam block" issue

Apparently in the last week or so, some system underlying the forum's spam protection changed and caused CloudFlare-forwarded IP addresses to be counted as "spam", preventing users from making forum posts.

I fixed this by changing the server configuration so that the users' real IP addresses get ...

Re: 11/01/2025 - "Right 2 Live + Rise of USP + Untitled" by sana, T. J. Adams & TIK

I remember finding the corridor thoughts map interesting and unique, an "avant-garde art" way of employing the modding tools. And for Rise of USP, the premise was certainly interesting! Unfortunately time has eroded any other thoughts I had on those maps.

As for Right2Live, yeah well, I sure liked ...

Admittedly, the Upcoming Maps section is a little outdated; it used to be connected to the main site, which is no longer the case. For all intents and purposes, Project Presentation and Upcoming Maps aren't really noticably different right now.

I'll still move it for now, but yeah, just FYI.

Re: [u227i] Unreal: Resurgence

Some very cool and elaborate terrain, and I'm in love with those waterfalls especially, and the architecture that is embedded in the terrain.

I would, however, suggest choosing a more "gritty" rock texture with more detail and variety, as the current one, especially at its large scale, does very ...

Re: 15/06/2024 - "Hellcastle" by Lord Waffnuffly "War Bonnet" Letz

I thought there was a tutorial/experiment area where you could try most of the weapons and equipment but I guess that was an earlier version or is elsewhere? TBH I'm not sure I've properly played this newest version before this with how many older versions there are.

I was also thinking about ...

Re: 15/06/2024 - "Hellcastle" by Lord Waffnuffly "War Bonnet" Letz

One of the more unique and striking maps in the community's history, I think. In retrospect, I find EXU2 a very strange beast, trapped between the grandeur of an elaborate setting and wackadoodle memes. Hellcastle was a showcase of the grandeur. The castle is more elaborate than some of the most ...

Re: ivi's lifetime body of Unreal work (sounds cooler than it is)

I like your take on the DP upgrades - much more sensible than the different parts being attachments.
I even had another concept that starts out with an actual pistol, then makes them akimbo, then adds a part to connect them together into a Dispersion Rifle, but either I misplaced that or never put ...

As of now I'm too lazy to actually open any of my old stuff and check it out, but there's some old screenshots I can comment on.

ivi's lifetime body of Unreal work (sounds cooler than it is)

I've been playing Unreal since release, and modding it since 2004 or so. While all I ever did was start projects, work on them for a week max, then drop them, I was at least blessed to never have a hard drive failure, and thus still retain the entirety of everything I ever made in those 2 decades. I ...

What makes Unreal Unreal, and what would a modern Unreal look like?

Over the years, I've personally made the realization that Unreal means different things to different people. It's a lot of things in one, but parts of its audience put more of a weight on certain aspects than others.

I'd like to attempt to make a list of aspects that "define" Unreal in several ways ...

Re: 18/05/2024 - "The Descent: 'Overture'" by nikosv, SteadZ & ebd

A sweet experience with the usual ebd charm paired with some "l33t visuals". Admittedly theres a bit of a disconnect between that starting terrain and the rest of the map, some stylistic dissonance, but both are plenty enjoyable in their own right, with the quirky and comedic elements of the latter ...

To be fair, I read the "shat" like "shut", reading both A's the same, so it took you pointing this out for me to see an issue. Could've slipped under the radar!
