Conclusion

Let’s just cut to the chase: was it worth waiting a year for? Was it that much better then the 1.1 version? Did it live up to our expectations?
We say yes, it was worth the wait, it was that much better, but it didn’t quite live up to our expectations. Having just read our review of the story, we are sure that you understand why. But don’t get us wrong. Even though it only got a score of 7.5, does not mean that we, and others, do not consider this as one of 2004’s gaming highlights.

It goes without saying that his pack will primarily be played by people who have more than just a passing interest in the original Unreal game. While there is obviously some recruitment to be done, there are many (hardcore) fans that still enjoy the game, and who go ballistic every time there is a new, quality, single player release. And for that crowd, this release is like Christmas and summer holiday all at once. We know that if you are reading this right now, you’ve probably got it from UnrealSP.Org, which in itself is a good indication that you are an Unreal nutcase (like the rest of us).

The Déjà Vu team has done a great job in altering the bug ridden, and beta like 1.1 version into a high quality map pack. There is no doubt in our minds that all involved have taken great pride in their work, and seeing the response it’s gotten, they should be more than pleased with themselves. Hellscrag has been in charge of the production, and has ensured that team members have gotten the help and/or the guidance needed to improve areas of their map(s). Having Lightning Hunter and Frieza onboard as new members has also helped to raise the quality of the pack.

Anyone who has ever enjoyed travelling trough Na Pali should give Déjà Vu a go. It has not renewed or surpassed the original in its unique flavor, but stands as a tribute, built by people who are genuinely in love with the game.
