This tends to be a community favorite.
For my part, the sheer depth of the level was always really interesting (as a player) and really encouraging (as a mapper). First time through, I just kept feeling like I was finding more and more map.
I will say that there are some Unreal songs are just unique to the levels they were meant for, and this is one of them. I don't think I've ever not felt weird about the Eversmoking music track in another map.

One of those levels that feels like an actual place, so many nooks and crannies that don't seem to have any other purpose except to be there and make it feel alive.

This map is soooooooo goood. Everyone else pretty much already stated all the good bits about this map. Pretty much my favorite map in the game.

This level is sooo BIG, and it's not only about vastness of the surrounding area but the monastery itself. I remember myself getting lost in the tunnels beneath the compound, looking for any clues where to go and what to do, occasionally discovering some secrets the place was hiding. There's also some non-linearity to it, even if there's only one level exit, there are multiple ways to move around the area.
About the atmosphere of the level - it has been always so depressing for me. Music, lighting, and eventual fate of Kira from ISV Kran. When I played through the level for the first time I hoped she would show up alive. The following levels aren't much better, with even more depressing music and appearance. I also try to imagine as if I was inside Bluff's caves and sewers, feeling their coldness and dampness surrounding me, thanks to dim greenish ambient light applied there.

I will add that this level made my PC CRAWL (P200, 32MB RAM, Voodoo 2).

Definitely one of the most iconic maps from Unreal and probably of any game in FPS history.
The fact that it was made on UE1 always amazed me. But I thought the same with some of Chicoverde's stuff as well.

One of the best maps in the game, with a developing backstory (and intersection/conclusion with earlier ones), a fleshed out setting with lots of variety and great exploration. It doesn't have much in the way of notable combat but I do remember the confined tunnels with Eightball Skaarj were a challenge initially. I've said enough about it in the past that I don't have much to add though.
The first time I played this level I recall it literally running at about 10 FPS and taking a minute+ to load, and that was on 64MB. Though I recall it was partially my fault for not turning down the settings from high. I remember upgrading to 128MB of RAM completely changed how this level ran (which I guess would support what I just said, as it making such a big difference suggests that my settings were overloading the RAM and forcing swapfile usage).

Yes, I too went from 32 to 128 MB sometime in 2000 and it made a big difference.
