oh yes, you are right with that, but I don't know any patch (meaning really version patches, if for games or other apps ) which does that. Patching bytewise like you described I only know from hacks&cracks

It is used frequently for installing modifications in textbased files (e.g. modding phpBB - FIND [
a long string ] > INSERT AFTER [
another string ]) and I used it a couple of times to fill up the blank space in command.com (DOS, those where the times

) with fun little pieces of code to play pranks on my friends. That's actually where it learned it, but at the same time itdawned upon me that there were easier ways

.
entirely forgot about such things like php...also Linux diff files do very much the same, but I agree fully with you that in most cases I prefer to replace the complete file, despite the disadvantage in size.

did you also try to extract it ? not sure if the installer will work if your are running it from within the zip...
It probably won't because it will extract files to another directory than the one the executable is in (which it isn't since it's inside the zip).
But I didn't want to ask that because I'm quite sure that Darkon wouldn't do that. (which might just prove that I am a fool for taking some things for granted

)
don't really expect that either, but somewhere we need to start. The installer works exactly like the previous installers, so there must be a reason it does that
