Walkthrough - "Xidia Gold"

The Genome Warriors

Map Author: Sjoerd "Hourences" De Jong
Weapons: Sniper Rifle, Pulse Gun, Flak Cannon.
Creatures: Skaarj Infantry, Skaarj Assassins, Ice Skaarj, Skaarj Lord, Cyborgs.
Bosses: None.
Difficulty:

You fell into a hole. Luckily you didn't get any damage. You're now inside another vent shaft, but this time the environment is just frozen. Cold weather seems to be the main show of this Skaarj structure, probably supposed to be another part of the crashed Derelict ship. And it's pretty cool too!

The main thing you'll notice is the Chaingun on the ground, right in front of your face. It's the one that you got, but it doesn't seem to work as its trigger is frozen (you don't have it anymore, in other words). You wanted to finish this game cheaply by using this weapon? I hope not. The map anyway is not as hard as it is supposed to be. It's actually easy as the previous map. Let's go...

Proceed in the shaft and fall through the hole. You're now in an icy, foggy cavern. Equip the Sniper Rifle and save the game.
The door near you is closed, so you need to take the other path. While advancing, try to see anything in the distance with the Sniper Rifle's zoom. You should spot two patrolling Skaarj Infantry (they have the Officer skin, but with blue-coloured parts. They are known as Skaarj Ice Troopers). One has the Pulse Gun and the other a Sniper Rifle.

Obviously the latter is more dangerous, and that's your priority. Just use the zoom to see who has the sniping weapon and prepare to attack him. One headshot (works better when he hasn't realize your presence) and two normal shots are enough to take him down. Unfortunately, when you're attacking this Skaarj, the one with the Pulse Gun will hear your bullets and join the injured ally. It's better killing the Sniper Rifle Skaarj Infantry in the quickest way possible before the other one starts to annoy you. Avoiding the Skaarj's Sniper Rifle bullets is easy, or maybe it's just luck...
When the first is dead, the second one is easy to kill. The Pulse Gun's orbs can be easily avoided by backtracking in the cavern, and in the meantime shooting him. Using the Shock Rifle or the Eightball may be useful too.
Backtracking may be also useful when you let both Skaarj join against you. Try to make yourself visible to only one and kill him (regardless of who he is, the one with the Sniper Rifle or with the Pulse Gun).
Starting the battle with some Eightball's rockets may be good too (and so if you want to beat the Skaarj they join), but I would stick to the Sniper Rifle. It isn't a hard battle.

Get both dropped weapons. The one with the Sniper Rifle drops also a Health Pack.
Proceed to the end of this tunnel where you'll see another opened vent shaft. Go into it and drop in the hole. Now, in front of you, there's another area; jump into it and don't about the presence of any enemies. And items too.
The big doors behind you are broken, so ignore them and check the three panel found at the opposite side. The two terminals on the sides have the same message:

" Process Station Master Kujir, warrior file entry: " The climate continues to decrease as a result of our Tarydium energy testing. This section will soon be evacuated to the new location, our instruments cannot handle the cold. Luckily, our tests have not been in vain. We have successfully repowered our Particle transportation Core. Teleportation units back online". ( rest of message frozen over)"

The terminal in the middle just activates a door found in the area you're in. Just exit from the panel area and see your right side, first staircase. You should find the access to a new cavern. Run into it and drop into the hole which you'll find. Proceed through the vent shaft and you'll enter a very cool-looking corridor.
Go firstly to the left side, and pass through the door. In this large cave there's another locked door plus the entrance to a weird Skaarj building. Is also locked, see the panel...

"Gene scan incorrect, you are not premitted to access this area."

Now return to the previous corridor... unless you want to SAVE THE GAME for something funny.

Easter Egg: Yuo = completely owned!
Requirements: SAVE YOUR GAME, good skill in rocket jumping.

Save the game before doing this, as it causes more harm than anything.
See the hole on the roof? The one from which the snow is falling? Rocket-Jump through it (or fly if you like to cheat). You'll be over the hole in some snow land. Here you'll find a flying sentence:

yuo
=
completely owned !

Some bell and drum sounds too. Once you're done, reload the game.

Now proceed to the other side where you'll arrive at a big door. Open it and enter the next, small-sized chamber. The door on your right is locked, but there's another one in the second part of this room (you should spot it) which opens when you go near it. And it contains something... Equip the Eightball and save your game.

Strong Enemy Fight: Cyborg - Pulse Gun
Health: 280
Difficulty:

If you ever read Azriel's log in your Help files, you were probably aware of some robots that looked like humans. This is the proof of their existence and you're going to fight a piece of it. The Cyborg is a Bot-like enemy, which is rare in SP maps. If you are godlike in DM/DOM/CTF/AS etc. battles against human/bots guys, then these Cyborgs will not be too strong for you. But this is Single Player, and your main objective is trying to avoid the most possible amounts of attacks, because this isn't DM where Health Packs respawn after a while. Not to mention the Cyborgs have some differences from the normal Human-bot enemies. They're bigger and slower, but with more health. Not to mention the normal weapons that in SP are always feared.

Obviously there's a way to defeat this guy. See the opened door? It will remain opened forever. The Cyborg is in it and he'll not move until you make yourself visible. Breathe for a while and start to charge your Eightball's grenades (six of them). Now run and release them at the Cyborg found in the small room. He's in the middle of it, and you have to release the bombs a nanosecond after you see the enemy.
If done correctly, you should heavily damage the Cyborg (three grenades are good enough), although the enemy will still be alive. Go back to the start of the chamber you're in and wait for him; equip the Shock Rifle, too.
Now, when you see him, fire Shock Rifle bolts at his body. All the hits will stun him (and kick him back for a short distance) and you have all the time to kill him without fear of damage. Good accuracy is needed.
Stop firing when you see him using a crouch position. This means that he's dead, but it doesn't end there. The crouch means death + self-destruction. Yes you heard it right. Some Cyborgs, when their health touches 0, crouch and after a while they'll explode. The blast is similar to the Redeemer one and kills you in one hit. Stay away and use a wall for cover.

When the Cyborg explodes, the battle is ended. Remember he's added in your kill count, so don't worry.

Get the Cyborg's dropped Pulse Gun and save the game. Equip the Eightball and proceed in the third door, found at the end of the chamber on the left side. Pass through this door but don't walk into the corridor.

Wait for the door behind you to close, then check the corridor's layout. See those sets of lights on the ground? Take note of the space between the second and third set. Now face the door you just entered, and run backward. When you pass through the second set of lights, charge your Eightball with grenades. Run some more and the door you're facing will open, revealing an Ice Skaarj. He'll chase you into the corridor, so when he's quite close to you, release the grenades. Three of them kill the Skaarj, and you have to do it in a row. Dodge backward after you released the bombs, to avoid their splash damage when they explode on the Skaarj's body. If he didn't die, reload the game and try again. Flak Shells may be useful too.

Now go near the door at the end of the corridor. Behind it there's a Skaarj Lord (it has an Ice Skaarj skin, don't get confused). Start to charge up to five grenades, open the door and retreat. The Skaarj Lord will spot and chase you, so release the five bombs to kill him. You can do it just when he pass through the door in front of him. Flak Shells are as always optional.

Enter the next area. The door on the right side is locked, so take the way in front of you. It leads to another locked door, but there's a panel here:

"Access Denied : Authorized Personnel Only."

This path actually takes in the cavern with the snow coming from the sky. Now return back to the hub and go in the last, unexplored door. Enter then the next room by deactivating the barrier with the panel on the right side and proceed then to the left.
This is some kind of lab where the Skaarj make their Cyborgs and other cool stuff. Check the panels in the middle for a certain, interesting message:

"Cyborg Units A through F, analysis: " In light of our recent struggle with the soft-skinned aliens on the surface, we've improved our original design of the prototype Cyborg warrior and added skeletal support that mimics that of the surface dwellers. If test procedures successful Cyborg units will replace our Sentry Brutes."

Equip the Flak Cannon and run through the doorway you see after the lab. It leads to a prison, guarded by a lone Skaarj Assassin. He doesn't see you from the start, so surprise and kill him with some Flak Shells. If you make him chase you, just retreat through the previous chambers while shooting him with Shells every time he makes himself visible. When he dies, you'll automatically get an Authorization Card and a message:

"Science Officer, Jyhjij: " Our genetic research has finally paid off. The Hybrids are nearly complete. Through Tarydium energy waves and gene samples taken from our Darklord, we are creating a new caste of superior warriors. Soon, a new legion of Skaarj will lead the next generation.""

The Skaarj also drops Flak Ammo, which you may save for an incoming battle. Enjoy seeing from outside the barriers the group of Skaarj Hybrids, that will be in an upcoming map in Spencer's adventure.

Now go back, save the game, be sure to have the Eightball equipped. Go in the hub. That door in front of the lab entrance now opens and inside it there are THREE cool surprises.

Strong Enemy Fight: Three Cyborgs

 Monster NameHealthWeaponItems dropped
1)Cyborg220Pulse Gun &
Self-destruction
Health Pack
2)Cyborg220Flak CannonNone
3)Cyborg220Pulse GunPulse Cell

Difficulty:

The map's hardest battle is against three Cyborgs. They are rough, one of them can Self-destruct and another one has a Flak Cannon. Sounds impossible but you can easily defeat them.

When you exit from the last doors of the lab end then enter the hub, charge some Eightball rockets and release them when you see the legs of the Cyborgs when their door is opening. Be sure to use the spread version of the rocket fire.
Your stuff damaged them? Ok, throw another batch of rockets in that doorway when you ESCAPE in the corridor on the left side. Now equip the Shock Rifle and try to do a Shock Combo near that door (the Cyborgs probably already managed to enter the hub, but still do it). You should have started the battle well by damaging all the three guys heavily. The same strategy used for the two Skaarj Infantry at the beginning of the level seems to work here. Retreat carefully through the corridor (backtracking) while you hit the visible enemies with Shock Bolts. If they start to fire too many projectiles, retreat and wait them to arrive (maybe another Shock Combo works too). Flak Cannon's shells are useful too as they can't dodge them.

The Cyborg with the Flak Cannon should be disposed quickly, but there's another strategy. The Self-Destruction can kill not only you but even the other Cyborgs. Unfortunately, the one who can do it (the other robots die normally when killed) has a Pulse Gun... and there are two of them that have the Pulse Gun. It's up to you to choose the robot you have to fire with the Shock Rifle.

In reality, if you followed well the main part of the battle you should then deal with weakened enemies that can be killed with Shock bolts (plus good accuracy), backtracking in the corridor when it is needed. It's a basic battle. Be sure not to let them go near you or you'll may die under the hands of someone or by a big explosion. Use patience.

Get the dropped weapons. The Cyborg with the Pulse Gun who died normally drops a Pulse Cell. The one who exploded has a Health Pack instead. Now go in the corridor, previously used as a help in the previous battle. The door here can be actually opened and you can enter the snowy area from another side.
The Skaarj building on the right is unlocked, see the panel near the door:

"You are cleared for the Hive teleporter room 1."

Inside it there's some kind of portal. There's a ledge above and behind it, and you can go to it by using the two staircase on the sides. There are two Skaarj Assassins on it that will see you when you arrive on their floor. Depending on your weapon hand, choose a staircase and go above. These two are easy, just have fun with the Flak Shells and retreat back (on the floor below) when they chase you. At this point Shock Rifle is also good.

Now be sure to have picked up anything you left in the map and activate the panel which was used by the Skaarj Assassin:

"Tele-Ring 1 coordinants locked, gateway to the Hive established. Only Royal guardians permitted access to Hive. Incubation not to be disturbed by any low caste warrior, punishment for violation handed down by the Darklord."

The portal will be activate and you can enter it. Enjoy the MotherShip Lab-like trip in the vortex.
After a while, you'll touch the level exit.
