Walkthrough - "Déjà Vu - Gryphon Revisited v2.01"Temple of NovanaMap Author: Shaun "MMAN UGITU" Friend "Thunder rolls in the distance..." Ow. I never expected this level to be hard, for the fact that there isn't a lot of ammo and because the architecture is as great as... cramped. Damn the price! Well, you have to pass some bugged Manta creatures too. "You are welcome to the temple of Novana. God of fertility and nature." Now go for the door at the end, saying hi to a Nali Cow. Here you'll find two NHPs on the flowerbeds, a Flashlight, a Clip, an Automag and two bodies with messages: "Lt Creek's log: Our equipment shortages are causing big problems for us, good thing most the the team are good shots. Craywell reported back from inside and said that the place was more of a monastery than a temple. that was a few days ago and I'm sure I hear Skaarj from the other side of the door..." "Lt dawsons log: Me and Lt Creek are staying here while the other 6 in our squad go inside. They have been gone for 2 days so I fear they haven't made it. Hopefully us 2 won't end up like that guy on the roof." As you can read this latter message, look on the roof of this entrance. There's a body with a Stinger Ammo. Go there by climbing the rocks on the left side. He got a message, plus a scream if you touch him: "Drevlin's log: Caruther's team seems to have gone on inside without me! That bastard! To add insult to injury someone has locked the door with chains, if only I had a weapon..." Now you have to open the door, labeled: "Exit to the Palace of Chizra" ^lol... "Elevator" In the Skaarj Lord cove, you'll find a NHP plus two messages: "Warrior lord Sha'tig's log: This new guard duty is boring, hopefully another group of human weaklings will come through so I can have some action. I'm sure there are some secret experiments in the base here, as we are told that if we say even the slightest suggestion that it's here we will be slaughtered; I'd better hide this diary..." "Triskaden Station Commander K'na'tha'jaar: Keep in your memory what happened to the last group of defenders who let a group of humans through; Weakness will be punished! I hope you will be more competent than the weak breed that defended before." Return to the central rock and ignore the door that lead to the: "Great hall of fertility" Go for the opened section and check the inscription on the left: "Be warned traveler; the five-eyed demons in this temple will only attack if provoked." Enter so the Gasbag room. Don't attack them, one bit to them and it is a mess. Just go to the altar where a Skaarj Assassin is standing. DP out of him, try to lure him in the outside area (it isn't recommended fighting him in the Gasbag room). Once he's killed, check the inscriptions he was reading: "Before you is Carpathus; the messenger of Novana. New trees and plants blossomed and grew where ever he went and he could control any creature to do his whims-he only used this power for good though. When the first Sky demons landed on our planet he caused them to turn on each other and destroy their own chariot, although they have since returned." "After Carpathus believed he had cleared the planet of the Sky demon scourge, he asked Novana to make him part of nature itself and was turned to stone. It is believed that this statue is Carpathus himself, although some believe his true self was hidden under this temple after the Sky demons returned." For stuff, there's a NHP, a Clip, a Stinger Ammo, a Flak Box and another body with a funny message: "Joan's log: I got confused after a battle and was split up from my team. I've found a dead-end here, so I'll wait for the Skaarj bastards to come for me while I recover. The flying flab-bags seem to leave me alone." Check behind the altar to get your first Sludge Ammo. Now equip the Stinger and advance to the next room with the name: "Tombs, basement and cave route to palace of Chizra" Save the game here. As you enter it, two Skaarj Scouts will come out from two tombs, on the left and on the right. The one from the right will come directly at you. Stinger Spread fire him tons of times to take it down (four shots). Do the same for the other one (use DP also). It's impossible beating these two without being hurt. To avoid most of the hit, stay in continue movement, go near the Skaarj Scout, let him attack and retreat. All while shooting and if possible, avoiding the Skaarj Projs (the Shield Belt got in the previous map is useful a lot). The bad thing is that sometime the ghost Nali become bugged and cannot open the secret anymore. This is why I told you to save. After you solve this second problematic fight, let the Nali opens the secret and check what's inside it. A Rocket Can, an Eightball and two messages, one on the body and the other on the inscription: "Craywell's log: I am badly wounded and probably won't make it. Some kind of Nali ghost led me to this hiding spot. Maybe it was just some kind of delusion? I think most of the Skaarj are coming from the basement." "The warrior who will slay the leader of the five-eyed demons will find the path to continue their journey down the great pit." Exit and check all the messages of the various tombs. I'm going to list them by the dead priests order: "Tomb of the first priest Dr'fan" After the long read, return back. If you want, or if you are mad and evil like me, you can try to kill the five Gasbags ignoring you. It's pretty tough, but all of them can be killed with the DP. Just shoot one of them, and wait in the previous corridor which lead to their room. They quite never come in team, just one of them at time. After killing that one (with the "close range DP fight" strategy, but it is harder here), make yourself visible again and lure more. If they come in team, retreat to the outside area. Save after one of them is dead... you must not being hit one time. Of course this is optional, but it gives just bragging rights. Now go for the elevator, it's time to fight two Krall and a Krall Elite inside the room. DP is perfect for the fight, is just strafe that's kinda difficulty. Stay before the doorway and never enter the chamber, like Krall do. Now advance. The corridor on the right leads to: "Room of the seeds" Enter it and go for the left side. You'll find three message near three big, weird stones enclosed into a prison-like cell: "Wherever Novana has intervened in something, he leaves a seed to be found nearby." "A scripture of Novana says: "The great pit will lead the temples savior"" "This room shows the seeds that are currently found. we have collected them in hope they may help somehow against the Sky Demons." Take in mind or not these fantasy stories and proceed to the next corridor opposite at the entrance. You'll find two Tentacles, but don't continue here! Just go in the broken wall in the seed area. This leads in the hall of fertility, an outside area guarded by a Skaarj Lord. This guy is easy to kill with a DP thanks to his AI which doesn't work well through the layout (lure him on one of those rocks and he'll get stuck shooting you and eating all your stuff). This area has a door which leads to the temple's first entrance, a NHP and a door which leads to the: "Entrance hall" ^the second one. "Exit to the Fortress of K'etrith" "Sarah's log: DAMN! The only way out of here has been blocked by a laser fence! There is nowhere to escape. All we can do is take as many Skaarj with us as possible. We should never have split up. I keep finding remnants of another squad; The Skaarj must have set the lasers up after they got through." There's in the waterfall area a small altar with a Nali, plus a message from his diary: "Diary of Yah'bn, Follower of Novana: I think I am the only one here who hasn't been taken away, imprisoned or killed. Although I fear the Skaarj may take me soon as well... Someone needs to open the floodgates, then maybe refuge can be found in the worship room." Now return to the elevator room and use the lift to go to the second floor. Watch out for a Tentacle hiding below the floor's ledge. Now look down: you should spot an ASMD Core and a Sludge Ammo on a wooden plank under the first archway. To go there, jump on the top of the archway below you, and slowly fall from here to that ledge (it's pretty hard). Return above again and go to the left corridor, where another Tentacle hidden over the entrance will attack you. "Worship room. Only when the water flows can worship commence." The door at the end is closed, but watch below the bridge you're on, left side. There's a ledge with two Seeds. Just fall on there, you'll not get hurt. Re-use the lift again to go to the other corridor called: "Priest quarters" The next circular area is patrolled by a puny Krall Elite. You can play with him here, as you can see his feet by watching below part of the thing in the middle. Now head for the left priest chamber. Here you'll find a Skaarj Assassin. He often chase you, but he just likes to shoot only without dodging your bullets... so DP again. Inside his room you'll find a Stinger, a Stinger Ammo, an Health Pack and a message: "Diary of Na'riak: The high priest has disappeared in the last week; I fear the Skaarj have taken him. I will try and escape using the blue crystal shooter I found. Perhaps the secret cave I hear about has an escape route, if I can find it." The room on the right has just a Tentacle with two ASMD Cores, an Health Pack and another message: "Diary of Kra'ior, assistant to the high priest: I know the truth about Carpathus; the Five-eyed ones remain entranced, waiting for their master to return. The high priest has been gone for a week but the Five-eyed demons remain. He must have failed... I am doomed if I stay, so I will take the blue fire guns I have found and do the deed myself." Now it's time to go outside, taking the third door in the priest quarters which lead over the hall of fertility. In its next room, labeled wrongly... "Great hall-upper floor, to priest quarters." ...you'll find in a library-like room, where a Skaarj Assassin decides firstly to escape, then come at you. When he escapes, DP, when he starts chasing you, ASMD. Now check the room for a Clip and a book with a message: "Book of salamas: It is said that the new temple was linked to the old one when it was rebuilt..." Go to the passage on the right and equip the DP. This door leads to: "Floodgates" As soon as you see the Skaarj Lord behind it, start the DP assault. He hardly descend, so you can calmly strafe his projs. If anything goes wrong, use the Stinger. After him, you'll find another valley guarded by a Skaarj Scout. Damage him with the DP until you'll return into the library. Then finish him with the Stinger. Return where he was and check firstly the stuff: there's a GES Bio Rifle, a Flashlight, a Kevlar Suit and a message: "Hawkins log: A Nali book I read said to open the floodgates, but this gate is locked. A Skaarj got me and I'll be dead soon, but I have set up some explosives so that someone else can kill these bastards and avenge me. Someone just needs to press this detonator and run like hell before it blows!" Now activate the TNT and escape. The blast will kill one of Manta in the next area (is counted in your score). In the next area you'll have to fight other three Mantas and another bugged Giant Manta. The small one are susceptible as always against the DP. For the Giant Manta... a problem again. Although he does this less times than the first one. If he's trying to escape (after you filled him with some DP level 4 shots) give him ASMD shots and Automag bullets. Otherwise cheat again. After his death check the place for a NHP. Then press the two levers to activate the water running. Now go back to the library and go to the third door, labeled: "Entrance hall-upper floor. WARNING: treacherous, only use this path if maintenance of the waterfall is required!" Stop at the edge and look to the way at the left. There's a Skaarj Scout there, and you can damage his foot with four DP normal shot and a secondary fire one. Don't worry, he'll spot you, but no chase... AHAA Pwned. Go down and check behind the staircase for an ASMD Core. Now go on the ledges over the waterfall room. On the extreme left, you'll find a dead Nali with an ASMD and a message: "Kra'ior: I have not even got down the great pit yet and I have failed. The Skaarj intervention will stir the beast; we are doomed." Now return back and jump on the tunnel from where the water is coming. You'll find a breakable dead end, leading to a small room with a ShellBox and a female body with a message: "Grace's log: I broke into this hiding place and put the broken section of wall back. There is a water supply here, so I can stay here for a while until I feel ready to leave. I think I'm the only one left alive in my squad. Hopefully I can hide here until some help comes." Time to go back to the elevator room and go to the worship chamber now opened. Before entering it, equip ASMD. Open the door and shoot at the first Skaarj you'll see, then escape. A Skaarj Lord followed by a (damaged if you got him) Skaarj Warrior will follow you. Lure them in the bridge areas and shoot Tazer Projs at them like mad (focus mainly on the Lord). Then finish them with the DP. Now enter the church in which the Skaarj where guarding. You'll find three messages, one on the left inscription, one on the altar and the last on the right tablet: "Novana grants us with prosperous crops and livestock. His followers help those who cannot get enough food to feed their families by teaching them techniques on growing their crops and keeping their livestock healthy wherever they live." "Novana says that the savior of this temple will come soon." "Novana and Chizra are good friends; if you worship Chizra but are unable to reach his palace, you may pray to him here." Check behind the altar for a Sludge Ammo. Now your GBR should be full. Check now well the right side of the area where you'll find a hole leading to the room of seeds, clearly on a ledge with a Seed and a message by the dead Nali: "Diary of Natt'far, secondary priest of Novana: I have been hiding up here for 3 days now. I saw a group of Humans, but there was something that scared me about the leader so I did not come down to greet them. I think the Skaarj seek to defile Carpathus' stone form. I hope his real self was taken away from this temple." Now return in the church room again and head for the last door here, labeled: "Focus of Novana has been crossed out and replaced with "prison"" Now save your game and equip the Eightball. As you open the next door, start to charge bombs and head for the right side of the next area. As you see the Skaarj Gunner running with a Skaarj Warrior, throw at him the bombs. If you haven't killed him, reload the game. Done? Now dispose of the two Warriors with rockets. Save the game again and head for the next door, charging spread fire rockets or bombs. When you see the Skaarj... SHOOT! If done correctly you'll damage them a lot, and maybe killing one of them too (the group consist of a Skaarj Lord and two Skaarj Infantries equipped with ASMD and GBR). Shoot additional rockets or use ASMD to finish the rest, and watch out at the ASMD shots of the Skaarj Infantry. Once they are all dead, pick up their weapons and check the altar in the prison for a message: "This obelisk channels the energy of Novana and plants can grow anywhere in its proximity." Now enter the Skaarj room to open the electric gates of the level: "Forcefield control terminal" There's a message on the table too: "Ski'lals log: Although guarding the prisoners is important, it's more important to keep anyone from turning off the force field in the entrance hall that leads to our hidden base. It's a good thing that force field doesn't block water or we'd have a flood on our hands. As long as we control the floodgates, no one should be able to get in here." The prison cells are opened now, but they just contain messages. The first one on the left has: "This prison is so simple yet sadistic. It's almost genius of the Skaarj to come up with the idea. This table is the only thing to keep us out the water when it rains. The woman in the cell opposite me gave up and drowned herself in the water, she didn't struggle much so she must have breathed in quick. I won't please those bastard Skaarj by letting them break me though. Maybe the Skaarj get more pleasure watching me fight than watching me suffering, but at least I will feel happy in myself before I die." The second on the left, plus a Nali: "The Skaarj have turned the focus of Novana into a squalid prison. If I'm forced to stay in this water any longer, I will probably catch some disease. I hope the temple's savior will come soon." The first one on the right has nothing, while the last one: "Every day I get increasingly ill here, and the Skaarj don't even check on us. They must have just put us here to die." Now refill all your ammo and health if you left any in the map and head to the room of seeds, clearly to the corridor in which you have killed the Tentacles. This will lead to a flooded ledge of the waterfall room. It has a NHP, an ASMD Core and another message by a dead body: "eVOLVE's log: That bastard Caruthers just told the group to go on without even checking whether I was dead or not. Hopefully some more people will come through so I can team up with them. I'll get my revenge on Caruthers for this!" From this ledge, jump in the great pit in the middle of the area and follow your way to the end of the level.
