Walkthrough - "Déjà Vu - Gryphon Revisited v2.01"

Temple of Somana

"Emergence from the underground"

Wow. This is an incredibly easy level, it can be completed just by using only the DP! Not to mention the enemies here have problems moving through the environment. Anyway it may be kinda hard for newbies. Start the level, pass the first door and go for the right side of the road. Behind the wall which divides the passage there's a Dispersion Pistol Power Up (DPPUp for now and on), but don't get it already; or better don't go toward, as there's a Skaarj Scout coming from the wooden bridges of the next area. He tries to chase you. Start to use DP secondary shots on the floor on which he's walking, in order to not attract the attention of other guys. You can also damage the Skaarj in this way. When he's near you, run backwards to the ledge at the start (you have to jump), outside the flooded floor, while shooting the Skaarj with DP primary and secondary shots. Continue this while you're on the ledge, still shooting at him and strafing to avoid his projectile. An high number of DP shots will not make him jump over the ledge and retreat, so you can have an easy time then. Watch out as he can also switch side, attacking from the left pathway. Once he's killed, you can now proceed by getting the DPPUp and a NHP near it. Pass the first inscription with a message...

"Foolish is he who seeks closure in an unfinished book. Write the ending he must first."

And personally this message it's really weird for the temple, looks a joke to me. Continue now. If you go for the area beneath the bridges, you'll get attacked by a Tentacle on the roof, plus another one on the left side if he manages to see you. In the flooded area there's nothing though, apart from the dead Slith. Now ascend the staircase of the left side and go on this ledge. A Skaarj Scout will jump from the first window on the left wall. Use the same strategy of the previous Skaarj Scout, and this time you have also the DP's yellow bolt to ending the work fast. Second and last Skaarj Scout killed. Return to that ledge and kill the Tentacle here if you haven't do it before. Go to the second ledge, ignore the staircase and pickup a Seed and a Clip from two vases near it. Third ledge contains nothing, so go for the wooden bridge. On your left side you'll spot an Health Pack, a Flashlight, an Automag, two Clips and a corpse with a message:

"Ensign Ron Bozack. Log entry 3709. The Nali warned us not to go here: "Moron'e Pass is cursed!" they said, and I am starting to beleive them. Two days, and 8 men KIA. With only the three of us left I don't know how we will survive..."

The right side has another Automag and two Clips. Well you have a lot of ammo to waste in this map, and the DP is already doing the job very well. Also two messages:

"Ensign Michiel Parvlo. Logbook entry 0293. We've hidden in this old temple for some time now with the Skaarj lurking just outside. It's only a question of time before they notice we are here..."

"Lieutenant Sarah Garner. Logbook entry 1520. Our little trip to E'Nara village left me badly injured. I'm low on ammo, but ensigns Parvlo and Bozack promised to look after me. I hope we'll get out of here soon, or I might bleed to death!"

Now go for the staircase to exit from the temple. DON'T READ THE MESSAGE ON THE RIGHT YET! Once you exit the place two Skaarj Warrior will come from the valley in front of you. Once you see them, shoot DP Primary and 2ndary shots. Then retreat in the temple. You can do two things: 1)You can fool them by running from ledge to ledge around the flooded area while using DP at them. Watch out as this doesn't work often, as the Skaarj Warrior seems to stay a lot on the left side (where the second Scout appeared), although you can avoid this by going on the wooden bridge, drop and repeat until they die.
2)You can just do this if you find the N°1 kinda dangerous. It's just using the same strategy of the first Skaarj Scouts you killed. Although before doing this you have to heavily damage one of them in order to make one retreat and one trying to chase you on the ledge. DP's 2ndary fire is good for stopping this latter. If they both tries and succeed to climb the ledge, start to escape when they jump over it and return on the ledges of the last area of the temple. You should try this part a second or third time though to learn how to hand those two Warriors. If everything goes wrong, use Automag.
Once you killed them, you can finally exit the temple for good and read the message on your right:

"Temple of Somana, Spirit of the Stream. Many Nali have brought their children here to seek Somana's blessing."

Ignore the next valley from whence the Skaarj Warriors came and go to the right side to see what's around the temple. After passing the first torch here with a NHP you'll spot some fire and a Skaarj Warrior, unaware of your presence. Charge a full DP shot on him and pummel them with normal shots while running backwards. Don't worry the Skaarj will have problems for the chase. See now what's present near his original position. There are two Stinger Ammo and five NHPs! (the fifth one is behind the bricks) Hard level really :P And there's a sixth one near the ledge over the first area of the temple; check better and you'll find three Rifle Rounds and two ASMD Cores. Now return on the temple's exit and go for the right side. It is blocked by bricks, but you can pass them by jumping on the stone arch and walk then over the blocks. In this secret area you'll find at the end a ShellBox and an Armor. Exit this place by going through the windows of the temple. Now it's time to go to the next area where the Warriors came before.
In this area full of rivers (which aren't really that strong) you'll spot a building on the left: go here and kill the two Tentacle protecting it behind the pillars. Now ascend the lift. When you'll hear the Krall sounds for spotting you, return below by falling from the lift. If done correctly, the three Krall and the Elite one will start descending down to chase you. Shouldn't be a problem to fight them with DP like you did for the previous levels. After they are killed, ascend the lift another time. Now I heavily suggest doing the EE in order to get a Stinger Ammo, an ASMD Core and a Kevlar suit. Check the EE page for that. Check the area. Behind the pillar near the boxes you'll find an ASMD. Now go for the corridor present here which will lead you to a chamber with a Bandage and a Skaarj Warrior. Fully charged DP shot + retreat in the previous tunnel + make him enter here and try to kill him. The Skaarj Warrior often gets stuck in this area.
Now leave the building and return to the river, going on the next part of the valley. You'll find a NHP near the tree. Now try to walk on the edge over the river, going in the next area. Walk until you see the structure. Walk again and you should see the hand of a Skaarj Assassin. Charge the DP shot on him and let him chase you in the previous valley, while shooting always at him. He will have problems handling the environment. Return where he was and check for a Stinger Ammo beneath the wooden ledge (performance in this area sucks as hell). Open the door and take notice of it. Go for the next area where another Skaarj Warrior is here. Charge a shot again at him, then escape behind the door you opened. The Skaarj cannot reach you there, but you can joke with him by entering and exiting the place, shooting at him with DP's 2ndary fire (for splash damage) until he's dead. Progress now where you go in an outside area again. There are two barrels here, and one of them may contain a Stinger Ammo. More toward of you there's a Brute stuck in his hopeless position. Use Stinger primary fire at him while strafing and retreating back to avoid the rockets. Now go in his area and check for a NHP near the staircase. Advance in the first "hard" area of the level. There are some big boxes here, and behind them two Skaarj Troopers. If they spot you they cannot reach you for the boxes. These guys have DPs, so you can also fight them with your own DP in a cover & shoot battle. If there's one unaware of you (maybe if there's only one) a charged DP shot may also be good, otherwise use Automag. When fighting them, try to stay away from any environment brushes, as they like using DP's splash damage and charged shots. Dodging saves you a lot there. Now go for the pool under the temple-like structure (the one in which you fought the Skaarj Warrior near the Bandage). In this pool you'll fight various Devilfishes... use DP ALL THE WAY. The pool leads you to a cave with an Armor. The swim is long so do it in a row and after you killed the sharks here. Return up again and go for the next area, where at the right side a Skaarj Assassin can be seen. Pummel him with DP yellow shots and go behind the iron boxes, using the same strategy of the Skaarj Troopers (though the Assassin will more quickly lose your way).
Ignore the right side and go for the left one to arrive near the Nali tower. You'll probably find here a Skaarj Warrior hanging around. When you see him, dodge from the ledge and go at the start of the valley, pummelling him with DP yellow shots and Automag. You can also use the Skaarj Troopers/Assassin strategy. Return now on his position and ignore the Skaarj bridge. On the tower you'll find two Stinger Ammo. Now go below at the right side of the area and descend to enter the underground part of the Skaarj base. A Skaarj Trooper wielding a DP guards it. Just an easy DP battle, go to wooden planks section and pummel him non-stop so he'll never chase you. Now go for the Skaarj base again (there's a NHP near it). Progress through the corridors and at the turns, watch the left side to spot a Skaarj Assassin. Charged DP shot, retreat to entrance and pummel the Skaarj which is having more problems with the environment than your DP bolts. Activate both computer in order to turn the Skaarj bridge on. Go there and equip the Stinger: there's a strong Skaarj Gunner with an ASMD. Don't go here, remain at the start and use the various tarydium crystals to take him down. Dodge if necessary and strafe always, he's good at hitting people. After his death, enter the outpost and read the message:

"Security Outpost Thèta 2F. Responsible for controlling the E'Nara region, Moron'e Pass and the Valley of Shia'Dorle."

Progress through the corridors in which you'll find two Clips, two Stinger Ammo, an ASMD and two ASMD Cores. It's time to spam the ASMD gun. Enter the hub room and try to stay on the right side to see what's in the left corridor. A Skaarj Trooper with a DP. Kill him with Stinger or ASMD. Do the same thing for the Skaarj Infantry on the right side, and remember he has a Stinger so you'll have to use cover. One thing is... DON'T FALL DOWN! The Skaarj will quite never try to chase you thanks to the environment size. Choose a lift and go down, taking notice that both elevator paths has two ASMD Cores (40 ammo in total, spam more). In the basement, after the corridor, you should spot a Skaarj Gunner. Kill him by using ASMD's Tazer Projectile non-stop, they'll never breath. Now return up with the lift to go to the opposite side. Same treatment for the Skaarj Gunner here also (they both have DP also). Now go for the chamber white chamber present here to go to the higher ledge...

Difficulty:

Piss easy. Once he sees you, retreat to the lift corridor by already starting pummelling him with Tazer Projs. Once in the corridor finish him with normal ASMD fire, strafing also in order to avoid the Skaarj Projectiles if possible.


Now you can check the place for good. One of the Skaarj Gunner paths has just only an Explosive Barrel. There are two messages from the both computers...

"All systems functioning at 100% Main energy supply is steady."

- for the left one.

"The humans holding camp in the Temple of Somana have been eliminated. Awaiting further instructions."

- for the right one.

The ledge in the middle has just another Explosive Barrel plus the computer which opens the exit of the map. Press it and return to the bridge hub above. You can drop beneath these bridges for a secret area (the purple things do nothing) with just a Clip. Refill all you ammo and health left in the map that you need and go for the exit in the bridge hub area.
